I intend to delete some of the shorter pages, because many of them aren't of much use at all (for example, containing only interwiki links, or a brief dicdef etc). (sw) Mimi na User:Kipala tumetengeneza templeti ya nchi. Inawezekana kunakili templeti hii kutoka Wikipedia ya Kiingereza. Kwa mfano, angalia Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo. Ni lazima kubadili "Infobox Country" kwa "Sanduku la habari za nchi", lakini majina ya uga (fields) zinabaki kwa Kiingereza. Data katika uga zinahitaji kutafsiriwa. Napendekeza turuhusu Kiingereza kwa majina ya uga kwa muda mchache, wakati Wikipedia hii ni ndogo, kurahisisha kunakili data. An example is on the Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo article. It's now possible to simply copy over an infobox from an English language article without much modification. The "Infobox Country" needs to be replaced with "Sanduku la habari za nchi", but the field names remain the same. The data in the fields needs to be translated of course. I suggest we allow the English field names to remain for the time being, while the Wikipedia is small, to facilitate the copying over of data. Hi, unfortunately I don't speak any Kiswahili (sorry!), so I hope someone could respond in English...

First of all, is this the "real" help page? (It's not linked to the respective German page, so I'm a bit confused...) If it's not the right page: Sorry, and could you tell me where else I should ask my question? Thanks!

The reason I'm writing, however, is that I'm looking for information about a river in Tanga. Someone wrote an entry in the German Wikipedia on "Sigifluss" (English translation would be Sigi River), which is supposedly a river in the Tanga province in Tanzania, which had that name until 1918. Now we're trying to find out which river it is and what it is called today. There seems to be a "Sigi River" and even an "mto Sigi"http://sw.wikipedia.org/"Mto Sigi" on the internet, but unfortunately I haven't yet found out if this is 1.) the same river, and b.) the official name of it.

So I'd be grateful for any and every information about the river or anything else that you could tell me about it, or if you could even tell me where to find more information about it (books? internet?). (Maybe you could even mark it on Tanga on wikimapia.org? If you want to do that, just click onto "Add place" in the upper left corner...) I'd be happy to include whatever information I find into the German article--so this is your chance to contribute to the German Wikipedia ;o) ! Dear Ibn Battuta, as your chosen name is so closely related to our beautiful Kilwa Kisiwani of course you are most welcome. As for Sigi (Zigi)-River: I just passed by once (maybe User:Rerehambegha has more - he lives in that area.) For a small river you have milked most information from the sources. About the name you have it on the linked reference by Krebs that it is called mostly "Zigi" nowadays, as with many names which were written with "s" by the Germans because German does not write the difference between sharp "s" and soft "z". It is interesting that quite a few times the spelling "sigi" is also found which looks like some memory of the German orthography (or just Tanzanian liberality as far as spelling is concerned?).
From the German Koloniallexikon you see quite clearly that "Sigi" it is the river ending in the Creek that finally forms Tanga Bay. If you look in the internet using "Zigi river" you get a lot more descriptions from different projects about its basin. --Kipala 16:58, 13 Februari 2007 (UTC)

(Sorry for the English, but I've only got 5 minutes, and it takes me ages to write even half comprehensible Swahili...) You're suggesting we limit editing only to those who have registered. This has been proposed and debated many times elsewhere, but for better or worse -- and to cut a long story short -- Wikimedia Foundation has settled it: see [3]. That is, we have to allow anonymous edits. The advantage is that the barrier to contributing is as low as possible; the cost is that we have to deal with more vandalism. But in truth, there's not really all that much vandalism on sw currently, at least by the standards of en (and I imagine the other larger language editions too). Dear user community. I am hereby requesting bot status for SieBot, my robot, using the pywikipedia bot framework to make edits on this wiki in all namespaces related to interwiki links. I specifically request a bot bit here because running interwiki, I noticed that I could have made a relatively large amount of edits here. I'm happy with you're bot making edits on this wiki. (We don't yet have any formal procedures regarding bot status on this Wikipedia, but I guess if no other user disagrees here, the this shouldn't be a problem. At any rate, other bots have already made edits on this Wikipedia without any special permission; I think the rule is that a bot onle needs a permission if the concerned Wikipedia has some rules about bots, which we don't yet have). Hi,

I saw this Wikipedia in the movie The Truth According to Wikipedia and it was very inspirational.

I don't know Swahili, but i tried browsing around this Wikipedia. In the movie i saw the article Mnazi (kinywaji) and i was curious why did they show it. I found it here, but unfortunately it doesn't have interwiki links to other languages and i have no idea what it is.

I looked at a few of your other pages and found that many of them don't have interwiki links. Good interwiki links strongly improve the encyclopedia. Bots are not enough for this - they just complete the work that human editors do, but human editors should check them and add them where necessary.

In the Hebrew Wikipedia we have developed some tools and processes that help editors improve interwiki links. Please take a look here:

Dear community. I am writing to you to promote a special wiki called Betawiki. This wiki facilitates the localisation (l10n) of the MediaWiki interface. You may have changed many messages here to use your language in the interface, but if you would log in to for example the Japanese language Wiktionary, you would not be able to use the interface as well translated as here. In fact, of 1,736 messages in the core of MediaWiki. Betawiki also supports the translation of messages for 126 extensions, with 2,174 messages. Many of them are used in WMF projects and they are vital for understanding the wiki. Translators for over 100 languages contribute their work to MediaWiki this way every month.

If you wish to contribute to better support of your language in MediaWiki, as well as for many MediaWiki extensions, please visit Betawiki, create an account and request translator privileges. You can see the current status of localisation of your language on MediaWiki.org and do not forget to get in touch with others that may already be working on your language on Betawiki.
